Aggressive Ice Skating : Edit

Robert Brodrecht posted an Aggressive Ice Skating video with some words on this experiment :
Around noon on Friday, November 24th, 2006, Dale, Moody, and I met up to do a little Black Friday shopping of our own. Instead of hitting the malls, we went to Lowe’s and bought wood, screws, coping, and teflon spray. We headed back to my house after picking up Harry, a local skater and extra set of hands. We set to work building a small kicker and eight foot rail box. Three hours later, we were putting a synthetic ice surface on the finished product.
In the mean time, Moody mounted ice hockey frames on several pair of aggressive inline skate boots.
We finished just in time to hoof it up to the Pelham Civic Complex in Pelham, Alabama. After paying rental fees, we set up the ramps. Over the next few hours, we learned the ropes of a sport few have actually tried. I had been on ice skates a total of two times, making my third time the first time I had used sharpened blades. Luckily, my inline skating background transferred pretty well. Except for Dale, who has been skating almost as long as he’s been walking, the Ice Ramps team shared my sentiments.
Within the two hours, we attracted quite a crowd. The hand full of people we brought along to skate had doubled as onlookers joined the party. Everyone seemed to have fun and most of us fell nicely into the burgeoning sport.

I think the idea is pretty nice but it still needs some perfecting, especially the grinding part. And jumping chairs just isn’t right.

the tought of doing that is verry nice but this guys sucks al lot…
December 18th, 2006 at 12:30 pm

I can’t beleive everyone is making fun of these guys’ style – this is their first time trying this. I imagine the first time any of us jumped off a kicker or did a mizou on a ledge we didn’t look amazing. Inline experience does not transfer well to the ice (I’ve tried it).
Also, grabs are out of the question in this “sport” – think about it.

i really dont see this going anywhere, its very sketchy! will cost alot of money to do. just no!

Why all you people hating? I mean look at inline skating for the last couple of years, it’s been growing real BIG BIG, if you compare it with 5 years ago. So every new sport takes years before it develops itself…

Ever since I saw Ice Ramps, it reminded me of what I had thought of years ago and they’ve really put it together well. I liked the edit (although it almost looked like they were going for grabs a few times which freaked me out). Some people above were saying something about the “gay” figure style — well, if you read the description, you would have known that one of the members has been skating as long as he’s been walking. besides, it looks cool – just a little flamboyant. :P the rest was just really interesting and i’m glad they’re doing it.

dude no offense but that ideas got bad news written all over it.
how long will it be before sprained and torn knees? skates and concrete slide. Ice and metal dont.

haha cool idea!!! It would be fun but falling on the ice would hurt like a bitch. fun edit to watch though

i was tryin it and i wonder why there is any 540 from this bank…i did a 540 and i dont think its difficult…i was tryin some grinds too,but i didnt have a skates with a groove…just only makio ar ao or truespin makio…but i think this need special ice aggressive skates, not only framez but all the boot should be created for ice skatin…and then trainin trainin trainin haha…it could be niiice but level of skatin must arise…

great soon they make (if havent already) ice skateboard and all of those poor peoples who do their own hobby whitch is called ice skating has to look out their pack all the time that someone trying aggressive ice skates doesn’t land on their neck…
Keep it real don’t twist already good thing to something weird like this.
ONLY MY OPINION THOUGH.

This is just the thing the emo bladers have been waiting for. One solid stale grab off that ramp and then… BAMM! Slit your wrist real good on the way back! It will be a beautiful poetic death! haha, j/k

I think it couldn´t be so difficult to ride this skates and do tricks. Have they ever skated? Or they are not able not even to do mizsou or 540 on inline skates?
December 19th, 2006 at 2:39 pm
some gloves will solve the grab issues, Oh and Craig Moody aka “Moo” is the skater who broke my skates he always lands on his inside edges and the blade was already cracked/weaked since Moo jumped up and grinded the barrier around the rink, so that was the blade and part of the grind plate that came off. (however it was the 2nd pair he broke that day lol)
Also some of the skaters had very minimal time on ice like less than 3 and the other two were on rental skates. As far as figure skating style I grew up figure skating since my Mom was a coach (I also played hockey) so I guess I will always carry that style over regardless of what type skates I have on, As far as everyone else goes none are figure skaters nor were they ever, there were three inliners everyone else were hockey skaters we invited over from the public session to try it out.

ii was just in bama with these guys and had about the best time of my life. the video should be out soon. we had a ton more ppl in inline boots with skate blades, the same kicker, a fly box and a sick rail, a working ice skateboard, and a whole crowd of interested people. seriously dont knock the sport unless you go out and try it.
