3d Skater by E. Lecouturier (FR): Final Rendering

3d skater

Quoting Emmanuel Lecouturier:

My rollerblader was recently picked and displayed on rollernews website, and remind me I have never posted the finished character.

So there he is. The charater is under 8500 tris 2048 map for color, normal and specular, ready to go in a next gen game :) Rendered in XSI with simple point light.

  3. Walter Says:

    That shit looks awesome!

  4. Notorious Tom Says:

Wow! It looks even better now it’s finished, how long does this take to render?

Wonder if it’s been made out of seperate nodes and shizz so it could easily be animated.

The nerd in me finally relates to the rollerblader in me lol

  5. evidence Says:

we straight dont give a damn about it

  6. andreas542 Says:

This is awesome. With a modelling team and a few programmers it’d be easy to make a rollerblading game. Using the Valve Source physics engine all we really need to do is create the models + animations, a few levels and then there’s a bit of programming to be done. I can’t be the only C++ speaking rollerblader out there…

  7. Romero Says:

lol, i know how to program on C#
but thats not the programing language that they use to make games xD

  8. GrindTheBladeShopSE Says:

start getting things rolling then… and soon enough we ll have a top notch video game ready to be released;) just in time ;)

  9. Shuma Says:

Notorious Tom: Rendering is really fast, a few seconds.
It’s mean to be a game character rendered in realtime, so rendering is very simple here. I made him in order to be animate, so yes it could be animated.

andreas542: I don’t think it would be easy to make rollerblading game, but with good free game engine available now, it could be done by a small team. I will send you a mail to discuss more about this.

Keep rolling and thanks for your comments!

Would be awesome if we got another video game since “Aggressive Inline” and “Rolling” crashed and burned. So, do we have any people that went to school for video game design?

  11. Notorious Tom Says:

Now what would be the best game ever IMO would be a rollerblading game with the control of the SKATE series but in an online setting like World of Warcraft, without the fantasy/nerdy stuff lol

So you could session with everyone and explore the world for new spots and competitions and “level up” by gaining sponsorship and tricks etc.

Then you could design your own skates and maybe create your own company in that world.

Damn I wish I could make that =P

  12. tim Says:

We need a new game it would bring a lot of attention to out sport

  13. Al Says:

Cela serait bien de voir ce skater dans un jeu comme GTA. Il y a des spots partouts, il ne reste plus ( il y a du boulot quand même ) à créer l’animation du skater.

This is great. It will be good to put this skater on GTA. Tons of spot on this game. (Skater mod)

    :-)

  14. jimmy Says:

how about just animating that dude down a hand rail?
what 3d app you using? 3ds?

  15. andreas542 Says:

Shuma, I look forward to hearing from you. I agree that it’s far from easy, but the technology exists and I don’t think there will be a problem finding rollerbladers educated in programming and 3d modelling.

Notorious Tom: I want to make a Skate-like game, where you directly control the feet of the skater to do tricks, rather than pressing a certain button for a certain trick. Could be adapted to be MMO (massive multiplayer online) once the game has been developed. Don’t get your hopes up just yet though, a completed product is years away, and it won’t be as good as the Skate-series, a few rollerbladers simply can’t accomplish what a team of expert game designers can.

  16. Mr. Fister Says:

no offence man but this dude doesnt look laike chris at all!

    but nice attempt

a game would definitely bring tons of attention to our dicipline but then again it would have to be made by folks like EA… if such a game faceplanted we and our reputation would be ruined!

  17. Optimus Says:

    Nice work dude…

XSI for the win…. too bad autodesk bought them out

  18. roll4x4 Says:

if there was a rollerblading game half as cool as some of you are describing, it would be really hard for me to go out and actually rollerblade cuz i’d be glued to my xbox!! lol

  19. Marcus Says:

Well done! Very nice job dude

The rollerblading community deserves a new game with next gen graphics like Street Fighter IV

Also a web version with Unity 3D engine =D

  20. Peedubb80 Says:

Yes we deserve a great game. I accually work in the game industry and got into freesyte rollin due to JSR.

My role is mostly in charater modeling and aniamtion, but i have been designing a rollin game for over 5 years now and have most of the kinks worked out. I can’t wait to get with a team of people and really hammer this game out. It’s my dream….

I love the charater but I would love to se a more stylized version of a human. this way when I add sick animation to it it will look unreal.

When your ready folks hit me up for the designs…It will be better than Skate. California game companies have gotten soft chasing behind the I-Phone, so I dear not pitch my ideas to nonrollers..You understand
